Well, what a night we had last night!!! Those of you who weren't there - you really missed a good one. France gave an excellent workshop on beading! She supplied us with kits to make a 5" x 6" pouch and even supplied us with all the beads!! She showed us a variety of ways to attach the beads and techniques to make wonderful designs. Next class she will show us how to put the lined, zippered pouch together. But before that we have to get started on our design and the beading. Take a look at the pictures - do you think we're working really, really hard. You bet!!

Hi Everyone:

We had a great meeting on Tuesday night!! Mary, shown below, gave us a demo on making "Hot Dog" pillow cases. Yup, you read right, Hot Dog. A really nifty idea. The border and trim are done in such a way as to have no exposed seams!! The side and bottom seams are finished with French seams. Great lesson!! I am sure all our boudoirs are going to be sporting jazzy new pillowcases shortly. Thanks Mary!!

Here's Diane with her 'almost finished' quilt. This was a challenge issued by Great lakes Seaway Trail 1812 Bicentennial Quilt Show Museum. This is a Canadian interpretation of a 'cot to coffin' quilt circa 1812. British Frame style design based on Copp quilt at the Smithsonian.

Sorry I'm a little tardy this week!!

Tuesday night was all about "Tips 'n' Tricks". Julia was there to give us some advice on choosing our fabrics for our Mystery Quilt and next meeting she'll have our second clue. That should help us a lot !?!?!

I talked about Lance, my new favourite sewing machine servicer (?) who picks up and delivers - can't beat that!!

Pam and Allison attended a Postcard workshop held by Loose Threads and had a great time and produced some great postcards!

Anna talked about her recent trip to Ottawa and

her visit to the Running Stitch.

She showed us her signed (by the owner) copy of

Quilt Sampler. Quite a coop!!

Diane is on to her new

project and is showing

the center panel,

and also her latest

baby quilt.

Keen Bunch of Quilters

Hi Everyone:

Last night a keen bunch of quilters weathered the 'storm' and made it to the meeting. Allison and Barbara have been working hard putting together a pile of fabrics and a pattern for our next raffle quilt. We have almost 2 1/2 years to work on this - good thing too as we need over 200 squares!!! Allison had prepared the backing fabric and everyone was busy cutting fabric into strips. Now the work at home starts!

There was a small Show and Tell, but mostly everyone had brought only working supplies.

I finally finished

the scrappy, strippy quilt
for one of the moms at Elizabeth House.
That's 3 that members have finished now
and are ready to be delivered.
They were great fun to put
together and so easy!!

I also managed to finish
the work I started in the Fall at Bethany

Garner's "Creative Design
in Patchwork" workshop. I think,
maybe, possibly, I got my big toe
poking out of the 'box'!! It was
lots of fun and more work than I
thought. It's kinda hard not
cutting straight, not matching
seams and corners!

And here's Allison, who NEVER has problems getting out of the box! You can't see it, but her beautiful Sashiko has buttons and is beaded. Beautiful!!!

So I guess that about covers last night's meeting. For me it's the first time back since before Christmas and it was wonderful to see everyone!!!! It's great fun when we're all working on a common project!!! Don't forget the meeting is next week, Feb. 7th. See you then!!

First meeting of 2012

Happy New Year to all Quilters. This was our first meeting of the year. Julia handed out the first instructions for our Mystery Quilt. We now have to pick fabric and cut strips. This is the first time most members have made a mystery quilt so we are looking forward to what will come, except for the striped fabric!



 France showed off her pillow with lovely beading and a hidden zipper in the back. She will give us beading classes later in the year.

Rita was busy again over Christmas and had two quilt tops to show. There is always another baby or friend that needs a quilt! She puts us all to shame with her production. Her piecing is really terrific with her backs as good as her fronts.

Allison, Julia and Mary only had books for show and tell. Anna showed a challenge she was working on, but didn't want a picture posted. It's fabulous and we can't wait to see it finished.  Linda had a Celtic piece she was doing with Quilt University and taking on her cruise. Next meeting we will start our raffle quilt. It doesn't have to be finished until May 2014!

November 29, 2011 Meeting

Julia had asked people to bring in UFO's they had finally finished and there were some takers. Linda finished a caterpillar quilt for her grandson, Rita finished a star quilt for a new baby and Julia finished a halloween witch.

Julia also discussed starting a mystery quilt in the new year, with a lot of time to do each block. There were many quilters interested in this project We then had a fabric exchange and most people went home with some new wonderful fabric.

Hi Everyone:

Well, as you know yesterday was the AGM of the CQQ. It was a great day to be indoors talking anything quilt or quilt related. It was cold, rainy and windy, in general - miserable. Saw an incredible rainbow on the way home - you could see it almost end to end!! Beautiful!! (no pics unfortunately, couldn't stop the car on the bridge).

But I do have pics of the group of us that went hard at work making the block for the CQQ quilt. This quilt will be raffled off at the AGM in 2013. Great reason to attend the meeting!! You can't see her, but in there anyway is Marilyn (now known as Serafina). It was great to see her again and hear about all her new ventures and adventures. Always fun to see Marilyn, oops, Serafina!!

So many of the guilds had community projects
to show and they are fabulous, from quilts of
valour for our soldiers, bags with blankets for
cancer patients, pillows for breast cancer patients,
the list goes on and on. What a caring bunch quilters are!!

Many thanks to the Lachute guild who did a wonderful job. We had plenty of hot coffee and tea to greet us in the morning and huge amounts of sweets. Also four vendors with plenty for everyone. Hard not to spend some money!!

Hopefully, next year we have even a larger group. It's a fun day and it's great to see other quilters we've met over the years and don't get to see that often.
