Jan. 19th, 2010 meeting

GENTLE CURVES by Margaret Roberts

A few members of the Westmount guild joined us for a demo by Margaret Roberts on piecing Gentle Curves, a class offered at Quilte Classique. Stephanie joined her to assist her. It was quite interesting. Margaret gave us advice on the choice of fabrics, and many tips regarding the cutting and the placement of the fabrics to create some movement on the quilt. She also talked about the occasional necessity to use an accent fabric and the importance of labeling and attaching your piles of fabric. Stephanie had prepared kits for sale for those who wanted to sew this project.
RETREAT
We talked about our next retreat at the Ermitage Ste-Croix in September. Details to be confirmed.
NEXT MEETING
Maryl will do a demo on spiral binding. With this technique, you will be able to achieve a wonderful, colourful binding.
FABRIC WANTED!!!

Diane needs more of the fabric shown. Anyone in possession of such fabric, please contact her.

Take care and keep quilting!

Happy New Year to all!

The first meeting of the year saw us enjoying show- and -tell. there were several quilt tops for Elizabeth House made by some of us. I think pictures were taken- but not by me, unfortunately. We are well on our way to providing some cozy covers for the little folks at E.H.

Then it was on to cutting strips for some strip quilts - Alison brought some real treasures donated to her - lots of really cute kid fabrics, in small pieces, but perfect for this type of quilt. Thanks to Marilyn's sewing machine, Alison was able to create a few blocks while the rest of us ironed and cut. Thanks again, Marilyn.

The next meeting should be a "curvy" time with Stephanie of Quilte Classique. The guild is footing the bill for our guild, others from our co-operating guilds will pay a nominal fee. I will be away - cruising the Caribbean, but will think of you. Have a great time.

Then I think that there will be a work day on Feb. 8 , I believe at the Community Centre. I'm sure there will be details at the next meeting.

See you soon - happy quilting.
