Wine and Cheese at Elizabeth House

We had a memorable time last night at the Elizabeth House where we went to meet Linda Schachtler and other ladies of the staff. We handed over the 30+ baby quilts that we made during the year for them. The quilts were displayed on the chairs for everybody to see.

Fifteen of us showed up, plus Jennifer from Artistri who gave two door prizes from her store. Pam and Mary T. were the lucky winners.

The highlight of the night was when the young mothers came down with their beautiful babies to choose a quilt. It was very touching to put a face to our work.

Lots of Different Fabric!

After finishing all my challenges I thought I would assemble a take-along project for the summer. I was inspired by France's demonstration on English Paper Piecing and liked the look of a vintage random colour hexagon quilt Diane showed earlier in the year. I began picking colours from my stash and cutting out hexagons, thinking 150 pieces would be enough. I thought I would use each fabric once. At first there were some colours and patterns I didn't want to use, but as pulling out fabrics and cutting became addictive, I thought I would cut one from each fabric I had. I went through boxes , bags and drawers of fabric and imagine my surprise to find I had more than 450 different pieces of fabric. Here they are all cut and piled and ready to sew! I will see as I progress how many I actually sew together. Now all I need to do is cut out the paper pieces!

Last meeting

Tonight was our last meeting of the year. We talked about the Salon and those who attended workshops shared their experiences and showed their work. It was most interesting to hear about those new techniques. Others too had show and tell. Always inspiring.

Our President passed a form and we started to put down our names for the different tasks for our next show.

In the second part of our meeting, we had a fabric exchange. $2 for a full bag. It is always incredible to see that someone's garbage can inspire the next person.

Remember our closing dinner in two weeks Au vieux Duluth, at 7 p.m. Bring your own wine. Don't forget to bring your challenge!
