West End Quilters Show 2018- Fabulous

Our Quilt Show is over!

Three years of work was on display and it was really impressive if I say so myself. There were well over 100 items from queen size bed quilts to a little teacup and saucer in our Box Top Challenge. We set up on Friday and the show was open Saturday and Sunday. The time flew by. The show was very well attended with people admiring the quilts, stopping for a tea, coffee and goodies in the tea room, shopping for lovely handmade quilted items in our boutique, buying fabric and notions from our vendors, perusing the silent auction and of course chatting. The noise level gradually rose throughout the day as we all greeted family, friends, neighbours and quilters.

Our Guild Banner now has more quilters on it. A few members still have to finish theirs. Our banner was hanging outside the hall for all to see.

All our awards were Viewers Choices voted on by our quilt show attendees. Many people said they had great difficulty deciding.

We had a Paint Chip Challenge. We had to find paint colours that that began with the letters of our first and last names. We could then use one other colour. Everyone made a block of their choice using these colours. The squares were then made into a quilt. The quilt will be hanging in our show and then donated to Quilts of Valour which supports our injured Canadian Armed Forces members past and present with quilts of comfort

Deciding where to position the squares

The final result
See it hanging in the show.

Retreat March 2018

It has been quite a while since anything was posted on our blog. That doesn't mean we haven't been quilting, just not blogging. We love retreats and so they are now three nights and twice a year. It is amazing what one can get done when all you need to do is quilt, eat and then a little sleep. We have our quilt show coming up in a month so there was lots of quilting to do.

This time we had extras at the retreat, sisters, mothers and friends so there was a lot of laughing, talking and exchanging ideas.

We were again at the Ermitage Ste. Croix and there was still snow on the ground and ice in the lake and a skunk wandering around. We were treated to three spectacular sunsets, each better than the one before.

Sunset #3 from inside our quilting room.

Quilting is all about colour and Priscilla did an encore presentation of her colour value talk.

People listened intently

Checked things on the internet

And tried to put the colour papers in order of their value. We
were not quite successful.

Our show quilts are almost ready
"Cool Colours"

"Hot Colours"

Joan's quilt will not be in the show this time.
She says she will be finished hand quilting after three or four more retreats.

Priscilla's Gordian Knot

Mary's Gordian Knot

The floor is great for sandwiching and pinning

Some conversations are very deep!

It's amazing the photo you can get with a phone balanced on a sewing machine.
Most are even smiling.
